Garbage Trucks Gone Green
Volvo has developed a hybrid garbage truck in an effort to reduce fuel consumption and loud noise. The hybrid commercial vehicle is diesel powered and is expected to go into production in 2009. The main reason garbage trucks waste fuel is because they are constantly starting and stopping throughout a route. The development team at Volvo solved this problem by putting a 320 hp diesel engine with a 120w electric motor. The electric motor engages from 0-12 miles per hour. This new Hybrid garbage truck uses 20% less fuel and is the future of gas guzzling commercial vehicles.
