Volvo Prepping New S60 Racer
Volvo is on its way to an updated production-ready S60, as this sexy race car concept shows us. S60 is set to make its racing debut in the Belgian Touring Car Championship on April 11. The racer was quickly put into the assembly queue by the Chinese-owned Swedish automaker’s Belgian racing team, and should campaign throughout this season.
The Belgian Touring Car Championship is one of the more highly-regulated events of its kind. This being the case, Volvo’s S60 racer shares very little with its car dealership twin (if you can even call them counterparts) – Each car contains similar tube chassis, aerodynamic work and front and rear suspension. But the S60 racer gets its power from a standardized V6 that puts out 410 horsepower. S60 is also mated to a six-speed manual gearbox that sends all that muscle to the rear wheels.
The S60 will be competing in two 90-minute time trials per race, with a 12-hour endurance run afterwords.
