Volvo Truck Sales Fall in Europe, Rise in Asia

New Volvo Truck sales throughout Europe and North America have been in a slump as of late - causing a cut of 1400 jobs at their production plant in Sweden and Belgium.

For years, Volvo has been one of the top truck producers throughout the world, and sales have always skyrocketed. Unfortunately, due to the increased fuel prices and companies struggling with financial loans, people are not reaching out for new models - sticking to maintenance of used vehicles. “The reductions are not only being undertaken to rebalanced capacity, but also to increase efficiency in production and to compensate for higher raw materials prices,” said Volvo Trucks chief executive president Staffan Jufors.

It’s not all doom and gloom with Volvo truck sales - Asian markets reported a 4% increase in demand - the company sold 14,849 trucks under its Volvo, Nissan Diesel, Renault Trucks, Mack and Eicher brands, compared with 14,277 a year earlier. But with fuel prices on the down swing maybe all is not lost.
